Speed limits are generally designed the way they are because the road/environment/area is not safe at a high speed so going 75 or 50 in a 25 mph zone seems pretty crazy no matter the reason to me. Maybe 10 over the speed limit would be ok but even then, you have a siren and can clear the road ahead of you with it so... causing an emergency/death to get to another emergency faster is pretty ridiculous.
74 mph in a 25, knocking off elderly people in Bremerton parking lots. Wow. With traffic violence killing 40,000 to 50,000 people each year in the US and leaving many times more people maimed, IMHO seems SPD should track and disclose reckless driving for new-hires. This can't be too much to ask. It also begs the question... when someone, anyone, murders someone else with a vehicle, why are they still driving? Take their license away forever. If the murderer believes not driving ever again is too harsh of a penalty they can make the argument to the judge (and victims family) that they have been unfairly inconvenienced and should be allowed to drive.
