I was thrilled to see a majority of my colleagues vote yes to pass my minimum wage proposal out of committee. I am hoping the full council will do the same.

I like the idea of bringing wage parity to those closest to our urban centers; however, a large swath of king county is rural, especially our eastern and southern areas. I hope the proposal ensures safeguards for these communities (as not all unincorporated areas are the same).
As long as we recognize that this will result in loss of jobs so while some will benefit there will be others who will need to go find other work. Look what happened in CA when they instituted the new wage for fast food workers. Delivery drivers were laid off and some restaurants closed their doors because they were no longer economically viable. If you think the net benefit is good than so be it but at least be honest about the downside as well.
