@3, Someone slept through the WW2 chapter of their world history class.

7

@6. Agreed, not equal at all. 5 lists realities.

8

BRB, heading down to the trans office to sign up for the gender ideology initiative. You get a free t-shirt and unlimited pronouns.

12

DEI is supported because it sounds great in theory but the reality never works out. There is a great image the equity people use to represent the difference between equality and equity of kids standing on boxes looking over a fence to see a ballgame. With equality all the boxes are equal so the shortest kid can not see however with equity the boxes are distributed so everyone can see over the fence. That is great. Who can argue with that? In reality though what happens is that the tallest person has his legs cut off and no one sees over the fence. You can see that with discrimination against Asian applicants at universities, SPS removing highly capable programs, jobs that mandate applicants from a disadvantaged group. I have yet to see DEI implemented where it actual raises people up. It's always about bringing others down. For those on here that support DEI feel free to provide examples of a program that has boosted disadvantaged groups without lowering standards or discriminating against other groups.

13

Yes, gender dysphoria is real.

15

@11
True.
One is a medical diagnosis and the other is a religion

16

@15, If only. ā€œGender ideologyā€ is a moral panic that was fabricated for the benefit of a far-right extremist movement that needs a worthy foil to whip up its followers into a state of fear and outrage. A few years ago it was critical race theory, and before that it was just plain olā€™ gay people. You can trace it all the way back to the red scare, though Iā€™m sure the roots run even deeper.

Conservatives have an infantā€™s understanding of object permanence. Every 2-4 years the right needs to find a new set of keys to jingle for their voters and this time the spinning wheel landed on transgender people.

17

I love how TS is so schizophrenic about the presidential election. We get nuggets like ā€œGet up to date on the conservative master plan for Trumpā€™s reelectionā€, sprinkled amongst liberal use of ā€œGenocide Joeā€, with the occasional DSA claim that thereā€™s no difference between Trump or Biden. JFC, pick a lane.

@17,

Can you link to a recent example of a Stranger writer claiming there's no difference between Trump and Biden or are we still bagging on them for publishing that idiotic op-ed written by CM Sawant five years ago? JFC, let it go.

22

@1
Iā€™ll take the imperfections of DEI and affirmative action over;
Corrupt Supreme Court justices
Voter suppression
Blatant racism as public policy
The intentional misery created by overturning Roe v Wade
(I know several women doctors, including OB/GYNs, whose practices were thrown into chaos)
The trickle-down crap that has been foisted on the American public for the last 40 years
and the conservatives opening the floodgates of power to the very wealthy, while crapping on the majority of people who vote for them.

24

@17 nice try with the gaslighting (@19 beat me to an example from just this month, barely over a week). At least the DSA purists own their nihilism (sucks for the rest of us but I guess sacrifices must be made).

25

@24,

That doesnā€™t come remotely close to claiming thereā€™s no difference between the candidates dumbass. That the best you got?

27

Also, how the hell is asking you to provide a link to substantiate a claim youā€™ve made ā€œgaslighting?ā€

29

@28,

That a President has more responsibilities than dictating foreign policy? That they can both adhere to deeply problematic foreign policy ideologies while not being equivalent? Do you think that every genocide that has occurred in the history of human civilization has been equally bad?

Fuck, Iā€™ve a stated and well established history here of staying out of the Palestinian conflict, but this is basic semantics.

30

*staying out of the conflictā€™s debate I suppose that should obviously read!

32

@31,

I am truly impressed by your refusal to answer a simple yes/no question.

33

On a lighter note, on his most recent podcast the great baseball writer Joe Posnanski went on record stating he thinks this could finally be the Mariners year. The AL West is terrible and they've opened up a sizable lead in the division there. Julio Rodriguez is heating up and they've also got the starting pitching necessary for a deep playoff run.

Go M's!

34

@25, @28, @32: Fail English class in high school, did we?

The quoted sentence making the equivalence refers, indirectly, to Gaza. For the last eight-plus months, the Stranger has absolutely obsessed over the Hamas-IDF war in Gaza. Russian imperialism in Ukraine, an Iranian regime so brutally misogynistic it actually beats women, official maltreatment of LGBTQ persons in far too many places to count ā€” all of these together have not caused the Stranger to spill as many words into these pages as has Gaza. How much more equivalence could you possibly need?

36

I was waiting for one of our resident trolls to bring up Hamas/Gaza/IDF even though there was no mention of any of it in today's SLOG AM.

My bets were really on Ahab the obnoxious but looks like tenny is our winner today!

37

@35,

The last sentence in the first paragraph of my comment @29 explicitly reads, "Do you think that every genocide that has occurred in the history of human civilization has been equally bad?" That's where I asked you the question that you've not answered.

And honestly, I don't blame you for not doing so! If you answer correctly that a genocide that left 50,000 or 100,000 dead would actually and somehow be preferable to one that leaves 150,000 or 200,000 dead (or however many, this shit is honestly depressing to articulate) then you're agreeing with The Stranger who've already endorsed Biden for President while noting "...Biden is the answer to the general election question because Trump would be worse in every conceivable way. Heā€™s worse on Israel..."

The ONLY thing that can be inferred from Hannah's quote there is that she believes them both to be genocidal. It's almost universally believed by pro-Palestine protesters and everyone else on the left that Trump's policies on Israel would be far worse than Biden, regardless of how much they may disparage Biden when making such claims.

@34,

"How much more equivalence could you possibly need?"

I need something that explicitly shows anyone at The Stranger anytime in the past 3 or 4 years claiming that Trump and Biden are equally bad. Noting that they're both genocidal doesn't do that. And I'll note for the millionth-ass time that I'm not claiming one way or other whether or not a genocide has occurred. But her quote that both are genocidal absolutely does not connote in any way, shape or form that she, or anyone else at The Stranger, believes the two men to be equally bad.

(and honestly I was great in high school English, my best subject! Perhaps the only one from my transcripts that I DIDN'T fail at some point during those four years.)

38

@33
Yes,yes,yes! Go Mā€™s!
More offense could help-
plus keep Judge from hitting home runs.

39

@37: ā€œI need something that explicitly shows anyone at The Stranger anytime in the past 3 or 4 years claiming that Trump and Biden are equally bad.ā€

Well, as being genocidal would seem to be as bad as one could possibly get, so theref-

ā€œNoting that they're both genocidal doesn't do that.ā€

No, no, no, of course not.

Hahahahahahaā€¦.

40

@2 kristofarian, @4 CDizzle (Garb Garblar?), and @22 pat L: +3 for the WIN!!!

42

@36: Gaza was implied @21, via quoting the Strangerā€™s wrongheaded belief the IDF currently commits genocide there, and the Strangerā€™s equally wrongheaded belief Biden could do anything to stop Israel if it was. Palestine was explicitly mentioned @29, well before I mentioned Gaza @34.

So, thanks for playing, better luck next time (please donā€™t call us, weā€™ll call youā€¦)

So, again, please explain how Gazaā€™s vote for Hamas in 2006 was a manifestation of Bibiā€™s will. (Note that 2006 was not within ā€˜the LAST fucking Decade or so.ā€™) Maybe the Israelis provoked it, by removing Jewish settlers from Gaza in 2005? (Cā€™mon, show your usual creativity in blaming Bibi/Israel for everything in that region.)

@57: If you want to explain how Bibi engineered the pro-Hamas vote in Gaza in 2006, then please do so. Otherwise, you're just making up stuff you can't defend, to absolve the Gazan voters from having endorsed terrorism.

Making your usual witless attempts at insulting me doesn't actually change any of that, it just makes you a coward, and a remarkably ineffectual one at that.
