LOLS, Maduro can't even ensure his population is fed. I'm sure the Venuzuelan military is in tip-top shape to repel the American "pirate" ships. Go ahead bro, take on the US Navy, we double dog dare you. Meanwhile, the flow of drugs must be stopped.

Perhaps if the CDC had not made incredibly stupid, non scientifically based political decisions during Covid (social distancing, masking, vaccine requirements) the American people would have more sympathy. They chose political hackery and now get to reap what they've sown.

55 shot, 7 dead in Chicago over the holiday weekend. Johnson and Pritzker say they don't need the National Guard. Well, buck-up dudes, cuz you are getting them.

Trump’s cdc further hastening the deaths of his followers is certainly a choice. They’ve got people thinking sun screen causes skin cancer, viruses are safer than vaccines, and replacing one sugar with another kind of sugar will cure diabetes or something, all thanks to an attorney and former iv drug addict with a brain worm and no medical training. What a time to be alive, if not for long.

Bravo, Jerrold Nadler. Every Democrat in Congress aged 70 and over should follow his lead and announce that their current term in office will be their last. Democrats have to do something big and splashy to alter their widespread perception as a feeble gerontocracy whose idea of fighting back is "strongly worded letters," and this gesture would break through the noise like nothing else I can think of.

@1 no the fuck they are not getting the National Guard. A judge just ruled this morning that Trump's use of the NG in LA violated the Posse Comitatus Act. So unless he can get congress to authorize him to use the military for domestic law enforcement, his little police state experiment is dead.

Funny how he's not interested in deploying the National Guard in STL or Memphis, both of which hold the #1 spots for murders and crime rate in the US. It's almost like... his actions are politically motivated and he's acting like a scorned toddler.

12

The Feucht event sounds like it was a success to me. No mob showed up to demolish his equipment and chase him and his followers out of town - and he's going to be able to credibly "claim success" until that starts happening. We're still hamstrung by redneck, right-wing police force which overwhelmingly sympathizes with Mr. Feucht.

14

"Attorney General Nick Brown was at one of them, but I won’t say which."

If you can't say but you do know means only that you're being coy and Nick was at Denny Blaine. If you know that he was nude, it's your duty to report it as that is skanky behavior for an AG.

16: Classic problem with woke pronouns.

18

@11 - improve your reading comprehension. The judge pre-emptively ruled that the National Guard would not be allowed to perform LAW ENFORCEMENT functions in LA. When Trump deployed the NG to LA, they were used for SECURITY purposes (protecting Federal Law Enforcement agencies such as ICE, and Federal Buildings.) Trump's deployment of NG for Security purposes had already been blessed by the Courts.

Likewise, deploying the NG to Chicago for Security purposes is fully lawful. They can be used as mentioned above, they can also be deployed to patrol the city on an observe / report basis, wherein they are looking for unlawful activity and then report that unlawful activity to local / state / Federal law enforcement.

But thanks for putting your racism on display for all to see. After all, why should the mostly Black and Hispanic victims of these shootings have their civil rights protected by the Federal Government? Like you, Let's Go Brandon Johnson and Fat Man Pritzker clearly aren't interested in protecting Black and Brown lives.

19

re: 17, Leave it to a closeted, anti-trans 'mo to politicize typos. But that's the result of having desperate political positions, I guess.

20

Excited to see Trumps little speech or whatever now after he's been missing for a week. Should be exciting.

21

It used to be that gay cliques would "expel" any member that became too open about their "lifestyle," potentially bringing down homophobic wrath on everyone. It looks like Coolidge Dollar still longs for those days.

23

@22: I'm not sure what you mean. You sound exactly like another (aggressively male) commenter; the only difference is that he ("formerly he?") uses four letter words and you don't. That's a minor stylistic difference at most. That's the only point I was making.

24

@21

"It used to be that gay cliques would "expel" any member that became too open about their "lifestyle," potentially bringing down homophobic wrath on everyone"

Then how come Ed Murray lasted so long or is buggering boys considered acceptable in gay cliques?

25

And - I always knew you were a fucking Karen beneath your blustering persona.

26

re: 24. I'd love to answer your question, but you'll have to go into more detail with regard to the connection. Specifically - is there any relevance there I should be concerned about?

27

Regarding the photo above. Lesbians are a blessing. Gays are a blessing. Bisexuals are blessing. Trans are a blessing. Queers are a blessing. And, of course, Straights are a blessing.

God bless us all!

28

Of 600 NPR and PBS stations across the country, none yet are planning for closures due to a loss of public funding. They will survive with budget cuts and more pledge drives.

Thank you NPR and PBS for being so forthright about the fact that Federal Funding was not necessary to maintain these "vital services."

And thank you President Trump for reducing our deficit by over $1 billion per year. It's a start.

29

If anyone will be impacted by the closure of the cbp it will be rural stations that lean conservative and not the stereotypical urban markets that already sustain themselves on donations. Contrary to what people believe, public radio/tv stations are all independently operated and don’t necessarily license content from npr and the like.

Deficits aren't bad by definition. What that deficit gets spent on is what counts: currently almost all of our deficit goes to emoluments for the billionaire class and a vast imperial enterprise - which is why the 99% has to live with austerities. If the government spent all that money on the citizens and updating the national infrastructure, there would be little to no political debate about "deficits." Any public debate featuring duopolitan pols, regarding "deficits" or economic policy, has been pure political theater for decades. Neither of the oligarchic factions wants to spend money on us - desperately so, in fact.

I don't know about public radio issues, but just because an infrastructural institution continues to exist doesn't automatically signal that everything is rosy. Private agencies providing residential support for the elderly - assisted living, nursing home care, &c. - frequently fall afoul of the law due to issues stemming from systemic neglect of their clients. Since our elected officials want to spend as little money as possible on such issues, nothing ever gets done in the long term about them - they simply recur, over and over again. But, from the capitalist perspective, it's an infrastructural model which is too profitable for certain individuals to motivate structural change.

Basically, if you fall into the trap of bipartisan whataboutisms and your-side-is-worse rhetoric with regard to federal deficits, you're just cucking yourself to the regime.

32

@18 the fact that you're fully in support of a police state to ~own the Dems~ is the most bootlicky, bullshit thing. Not to mention I know you sure as shit did not read the 52 page ruling - the President is not allowed to act as a national police chief and send out the Guard whenever he gets the itch. The Posse Comitatus Act literally (and I do mean LITERALLY) prohibits the use of the US military to execute domestic law, and applies to the National Guard when it's in federal service. Trying to twist this on me as some sort of "omg is she racist?!?1?" shit is hysterical.

And because I know you think Wikipedia is some covert liberal psyop, here's a link directly from the Library of Congress that provides the text of the act and a deep dive, should you actually want to do YOUR research on the matter: https://fas.org/sgp/crs/natsec/R42659.pdf?inline=1

33

@32 - I didn't have to read the 52 page ruling. I read a two paragraph summary provided by the AP and I clearly remember the previous court ruling where Trump was given the green light to continue in LA.

We agree on Posse Comitatus, we do not agree on the definition of law enforcement. Security is not law enforcement. Sorry, it just ain't.

But yes, it is racist to deprive the mostly Black and Brown citizens who are frequently the victims of these shootings a comparable degree of Security granted to those in the the whiter, richer areas.

@31 - when you've got a deficit in your budget, I guarandamtee you think it's bad by default. But all of a sudden budget deficits are fine and dandy when it's the US government. Sorry, I'm not 6 any longer. That logic ain't going to win me over. Nope, Nada, Nein, Nyet.

34

@32 these people want a military dictatorship, complete with concentration camps and blood in the streets

35

@31 do you read your comments before posting them? You can't spend deficits. Deficits are money the government doesn't have because they have spent too much already. When you say deficits are being spent on the rich what you are leaving out is that it is THEIR money. The government isn't spending anything, they are not confiscating more of the wealth to give away to inefficient NGO's like we just found out King County has been doing. Your thinking is what is so wrong with progressives and the socialists today. You think all the money belongs to the government and by the grace of God they allow the rest of us to keep some for ourselves. You also need to learn the difference between wealth and income. Most billionaires are only that "rich" because they have massive equity in something. If you forced them to liquidate that equity its value would crash (its called supply-demand) so you will never, ever be able to fully confiscate that wealth nor is it even tangible. Where you and I agree is that we shouldn't have billionaires. Billionaires are a sign that the market is not being efficient (competition is limited for some reason). The job of the government should be to increase competition so that wealth is transferred back into the market where it can grow not to confiscate it via taxation so they can spend it how they please. That is by far the most inefficient and wasteful thing you can do to decrease wealth inequity.

"Hundreds of (clothed) people gathered outside Seattle Central College yesterday to protest everything at a rally hosted by the 50501 movement (which organized the No King’s March): oligarchy, Trump, fascism, Medicaid cuts, and US support for Israel, while a handful of (naked) people protested the city’s anti-masturbation fence with a nude-in at Denny Blaine Park."

To paraphrase a big gay military leader from a few centuries ago, "He who protests everything, protests nothing." Even with that entire long laundry list, on a holiday weekend, they got mere "hundreds" in one of Seattle's most densely-populated neighborhoods. Feel the power!

(Also, psst: nudity remains legal in Seattle. Everywhere in Seattle. And your big, self-righteous story, about rich bigoted prudes hating on the innocent nudist queers, turned out to be very naked lie in open court. Now, repeat slowly: Nudity is legal in Seattle's parks. Making a spooge-fest of a Seattle park is not. Keep repeating that until you're sure.)

"They won’t be able to travel to the US for medical treatment, for college, to visit relatives or to conduct business, officials told The New York Times."

Just because you have a state doesn't mean you have a visa, I guess. Or it's the Trump administration's idea of recognizing a Palestinian state. Or both. Take your pick. (Remember, both parties are exactly the same, right? RIGHT?!?)

@12: "No mob showed up to demolish his equipment and chase him and his followers out of town..."

The only thing more risibly (and self-humiliatingly) pathetic than an Internet Tough Guy is an Internet Tough Guy by Proxy.

Simon says misery loves company.

38

"Israel has starved 13 people to death in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to around 361."

It cannot be said often enough: food piled up at the entrance points to Gaza because the UN, and other food aid groups, boycotted GHF when GHF asked for their help in delivering the food. "U.N. agencies and other aid groups have boycotted GHF because they say it violates humanitarian principles." (https://www.wsj.com/world/middle-east/gaza-palestine-food-aid-e74c68de?mod=WTRN_pos2) While the UN didn't say exactly which of its mighty "humanitarian principles" trumped (ha!) delivering food to children, Hamas has threatened violence against anyone who dares work with GHF to deliver food, so maybe Hamas' threats provided the UN's moral conscience on the issue.

39

@38 but but the genicide…stop injecting facts and logic into the discussion.

Also Greta already got turned around due to weather so hope they weren’t counting on her. I have a better idea…release the hostages and end this tomorrow? Just a thought.

@32 theincrediblek re: @18: Right? And thanks for the Library of Congress link.
Now, if only Babybarf and his fellow MAGA flunkies could read past the fourth
grade remedial level...

@34 barth: What will the foolishly jeering MAGA trolls do when Felon Mu$k's Mein Trumpf
and its nutzi fascists come for them, too? And most likely when nobody else will be around
to bail their sorry asses out by then? Their pathetic cries of "Wait!.....WHAAAAAT?!" will be
too late. They'll get their wish for the criminally insane horrors of an Auschwitz-like prison
camp first hand. They won't like being on the receiving end of tyranny, cruelty, violence, and
mass genocide fueled by racism, misogyny, Mafia level corruption, and hatred.
That's willfully misled MAGAs for you: they love to dish it out and rub everyone's nose in it,
but when the exact same brutality and injustice happen to them, they'll cry to their mommies.
Uneducated bullies always do once they get rear-ended, too.
