6. Dangerknife Plays to A Page Of Madness with Metal Men + Paraeidola
   Using handmade instruments and "cast-off junk," Eric Muhs and John Hawkley will get weird with trumpet-heavy five-piece Paraeidolia and Dangerknife, who promise to "boggle the minds of venture capitalists and Roman Catholics" by setting their tunes to a screening of the 1926 Japanese silent film A Page Of Madness.

7. Seattle Radio Theatre Halloween: Sorry, Wrong Number
   Marking 20 years of live radio drama, KIRO's Seattle Radio Theatre will bring you the classic 1940s story Sorry, Wrong Number, about a wealthy heiress who overhears a murderous plot over the phone. This broadcast will be accompanied by live music and sound effects.

8. Akashinga: The Brave Ones (National Geographic Live)
   At this National Geographic Live presentation, learn about the exploits of a troupe of all-women rangers in Zimbabwe known as Akashinga ("the Brave Ones") from the man who trained them: former Australian special forces member and subsequent conservationist Damien Mander.

9. "The Mysterious 'Snerka:' The Curious History, Current Status and Future Prospects of Local Kokanee"
   When and why did kokanee salmon first appear in the Lake Washington basin; what are locals doing to help restore their population; and what's the story behind the "snerka," a fish with uncertain genetic affinities? UW Bothell lecturer Jeff Jensen will spill the beans.

10. G. Willow Wilson: Wonder Woman
    The author of the acclaimed comic book series Ms. Marvel will share her latest release about another badass femme superhero, Wonder Woman. 

11. great weather for MEDIA Book Party and Reading
    Indie press great weather for MEDIA will celebrate the launch of their new anthology with a night of readings from some of its contributors, including Kate Berwanger, Douglas Cole, Bryn Gribben, and G.G. Silverman. A brief poetry open mic will round out the evening. 

12. R. Marshburn: letter[s] to my [ex] lover[s]
    Local author R. Marshburn will read from her intimate collection of letters that she's written to ex-lovers over the course of 10 years.

18. Miss Saigon
    A very young Vietnamese woman and an American GI have a romantic (and ultimately tragic) encounter in this musical theater take on Madama Butterfly, written by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, the team behind Les Misérables. While the musical has enjoyed popularity and acclaim, it's also been protested over the years for its depiction of exoticized Vietnamese bar girls, conniving Asian men, and other stereotypes. Notes for this production emphasize the heroine's "transformation from a naive victim of circumstance into a steely conduit of fearless maternal resolve."

19. Weasel Productions presents George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead LIVE!
    This staged reimagining of George A. Romero's Night of the Living Dead will borrow elements from the classic horror flick (like a "desaturated grayscale" set) and pay tribute to the impact it had on the genre.

35. Cameron Dezen Hammon: This Is My Body
    In an appearance with Claire Dederer (the local author of Love and Trouble), Hammon will share the story of her conversion from Judaism to evangelical Christianity and her subsequent loss of faith in a cultural critique and personal narrative subtitled A Memoir of Religious and Romantic Obsession.

36. Cassandra Overby: Explore Europe on Foot
    See Europe without looking through a dirty window with the help of Overby's hiking guide, which includes itineraries in Belgium, France, Italy, Germany, Great Britain, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, and Turkey.

37. The Crimes of Macbeth: Witchcraft of Neuropsychology?
    You may think of Shakespeare's Weird Sisters in as some spooky gals toiling up trouble in the background, but what if they had more—if not everything—to do with Macbeth's bloody crimes? Using this chilling case as her main example, Dr. Katilyn Casimo will talk about how the brain makes decisions, the neuropsychology of risk assessment, and other factors that influence our actions. 

38. Fall Art History Lecture Series: Artemisia Gentileschi with Carol Hendricks
    Gage’s adult programs director, Carol Hendricks, will speak on the amazing Artemisia Gentileschi, a brilliant Baroque-era painter who endured sexual assault and patriarchal oppression to become one of the greatest painters of her time.

39. Tim Wise with Million Belay: The Battle for the Future of Food
    According to current projections, nearly 10 billion people will live on Earth by 2050. How is everyone going to get enough to eat? Timothy A. Wise, founder of the Small Planet Institute and senior research fellow at Tufts University’s Global Development and Environment Institute, argues that small-scale farmers are the future. Get insights from this talk based on his new book, Eating Tomorrow. 

40. Tom Mueller: Crisis of Conscience
    All hail whistleblowers, those who risk their careers to expose information about whatever endangers the public or allows corruption to flourish. Tom Mueller's book examines what motivates people to come forward, and why so many people fail to act when their organization commits fraud. 42. Karl Haendel: Mazel Tov Group
    Haendel uses graphite to copy found images from ads, labels, newspapers, and tabloids, roping various elements into a single context. This collection, the Mazel Tov Group from 2006-7, is a sort of "collage" of disparate images spread over the gallery. It consists of four drawings and one photograph arranged according to the artist's wishes—a whale, a circus performer (the photo), the lyrics of Bob Dylan's Jokerman, and a New Yorker cartoon on Jewish themes. What do they mean? You'll have to figure it out for yourself.

    Evil scientists will run rampant with their beakers full of poison at this costume party revolving around "experiments gone wrong." Your costume could earn you tickets to Emerald City Comic Con, Crypticon, and other geeky events on the horizon.

    Pile on your black eyeliner and skulk to dark and bewitching sets from DJs Retina Burn and Reptile House as Gold Bar transforms into Goth Bar on Halloween. 

48. Made Up! 2.0: Tricks & Treats
    A brave group of amateur ghouls will glam it up for an entirely improvised performance fueled by audience suggestions. There will also be a costume contest, a raffle, and a post-show dance party.

49. Me + All My Boo(ze)'s
    DJ Nano Waku will spin lively tunes for undead party-goers, who can sip themed vodka and whiskey cocktails into the night. 

50. Seance: Dance with the Dead Halloween Party
    Reminding you that they are housed in a former 1920s funeral parlor, the Capitol Hill watering hole the Pine Box will throw a seance-themed shindig with New Belgium beer, a costume contest, spooky flicks on a projector, and music from DJs Wax Witch and Kool Hand.

    Make your way through a series of haunted exhibits as you travel up to the 35th floor, where food and drink specials, a costume contest, and a photo booth will await your arrival.

    Shamble like a zombie from bar to bar, with venues like Pike Brewing Company, the Crocodile, Cursed Oak, Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub, and more.

53. Trolloween
    The birthday of the Fremont Troll is fatefully aligned with All Hallows' Eve, giving the Fremont Arts Council a better reason than ever to gather under the bridge and dance into the night before galavanting through the neighborhood in the Haunt of Fremont procession (led this year by Brazilian drum and dance group VamoLá). After all of that, keep the party going at the Ballroom with a "Troll-a-keg" provided by Fremont Brewing.

    A boorish man with a beautiful voice shows up to perform his heroic role, but can he hold it together for the length of the performance? Will he even remember his music? Billed as “Jack Black meets Pavarotti,” Robert McPherson, a real live Metropolitan Opera singer, will combine opera (the popular art of another era) with low comedy, with the addition of "lights, psychos, Furries, screaming babies in Mozart wigs, sunburned drifters wearing moon boots," and other Halloween delights.

63. The Call of Cthulhu
    H.P. Lovecraft's cult classic short story The Call of Cthulhu, about a university professor who discovers papers revealing a series of murders culminating in a giant alien god, will be adapted for the Seattle stage.

    At a 20-year high school reunion, a rather immature man is determined to win back the woman he wronged—despite the fact that she's still angry and also married. Craig Wright's popular, poignant play will be performed by Strawberry Theatre Workshop.

    Halloween will continue into the weekend thanks to a trippy light show and performance by Grateful Dead cover band DEAL.

    Following the traditions of the season, Emerald City Music will delve into the spooky with a performance of the goosebump-inducing music of George Frederick Haas set in complete darkness.

    Local folk-rockers the Winter Shakers will give you a reason to extend the wear of your costume at this video shoot and Halloween party.     Reveling in rather bad taste, burlesque artists will perform numbers based on murderers like Aileen Wuornos, John Wayne Gacy, Lizzie Borden, and other ax-, gun-, and knife-wielders.

95. Natyashiksha—A Dance Academy Presents 'Pranava'
    Lord Muruga, the Commander in Chief of the mythological Hindu Army of Devas, will serve as the inspiration behind this Natyashiksha Dance Academy performance. Proceeds will benefit the Sophia Way, an organization that provides resources to homeless women in Washington. 

96. A Sentient Lump of Coal
    Split up into six sections, this dance performance will tell the story of a very special rock from the Library of the Universe through pantomime, tap, modern dance, and classical movement, with music and text by Jay Hamilton.

    The Imperial Sovereign Court of Seattle will return with another evening of queer pageantry as contestants compete for the coveted titles of Mr., Ms., Miss, and MX Gay Seattle.

    Former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Dave Wyman, who now co-hosts the Danny, Dave & Moore Show on KIRO-710, will share the stage with longtime Seattle Times football writer Bob Condotta for a discussion of their new co-authored book about past and present Seahawks lore.

     Leonardo da Vinci has been dead for centuries, but his legend lives on. This documentary, released on the 500th anniversary of his death, explores the Renaissance artist's life and work. Show up early for mimosas and mirth at a pre-reception.

105. Peelander-Z, The Subjunctives
     Childhood nostalgia plays a big role in the manic blitzkrieg that is a Peelander-Z show. To be reductive, the Japanese group plays the kind of simple pop-punk that tends to come out of high-school practice rooms. Their stage gimmick reaches back to puberty, as well. The band performs as a color-coordinated Sentai-style superhero team—Power Rangers is the most common example of this trope in the United States. But Peelander-Z’s live show is no joke. In addition to choreographed theatrics, they play with reckless abandon, sometimes hurting themselves while jumping from amplifiers or second-story balconies. JOSEPH SCHAEFER

     Illustrator Julia Wald uses India ink to explore the cultural significance and history of tea-drinking. At the opening reception, enjoy food by Alder Brothers BBQ, including, among other treats, "shortbread gobs" with smoked pineapple and strawberry whipped cream and green tea and passion fruit mimosa.
