This brawl (or righteous retribution) filled me with joy. I had a visceral reaction ("Oh no he didn't!! Go get him. Yeah!!! Yeah!!! Hit them with that chair!") As a gay man I have experienced too much of this kinda intimidation and violence shit from white straight bros. The fight back brought me joy.

When I was 12, wandering on tavern row until the day I could go in, I saw a young guy kill an old drunk, kicking him in the head after he had him down on the concrete. The drunk had said something bad about the younger man’s mother, so… yeah, “justified.” I’ve seen too much violence, and I’ve also seen a lot of people break up fights. This week I wish I’d seen a literal boatload of people breaking up a lopsided and racially motivated fight, but that’s not what this was. You and I may have differing standards of beauty, but violence is always ugly to me. It’s only justified when needed to prevent larger and immediate violence, and no more. “Justice” is just an abstract rationalization for wrath.
